MLC Election observer passes away
Varanasi: Ajay Singh (48), the MLC election observer passed away on Saturday morning. He was admitted to a private hospital after a massive heart attack during vote counting duty on Friday.
The district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said that Singh breathed his last at the hospital around 9:30 am.
The chief minister Yogi Adityanath condoled the death and paid tributes during a meeting at Lucknow.
Singh, an IAS officer of 1998 batch, was deputed at Varanasi as MLC election observer. After receiving a heart attack, he was taken to a private hospital in Khajuri locality around 8:45 am on Friday. Senior administrative and police officials had also reached the hospital after getting information. He was put on life support.
According to the medical director of the hospital Dr. Naveen Kumar Singh, Singh was brought to the hospital in a critical condition. After reviving his condition, he was shifted to the critical care unit (CCU) on life support system. He was not in a condition to be air-lifted to another hospital.
Singh’s wife, Neena Sharma, who was also deputed as the election observer in Agra, also reached Varanasi after getting information. The state government had arranged a helicopter for her to reach Varanasi.
