Varanasi: In view of the rise in coronavirus cases, the Banaras Hindu University administration suspended the offline classes and the students staying in the hostels were asked to go to their homes.

According to the The BHU spokespersons Rajesh Singh, a meeting of university authorities chaired by the vice chancellor Prof. Rakesh Bhatnagar was held on Monday to review the situation of teaching-learning of students in the classes and their stay in hostels in light of the rising cases of Covid-19 positive students in the hostels and the increasing number of positives cases in the hospital. The meeting was attended by the rector, directors of the institutes, deans of the faculties, coordinator of hostels, dean of students, chief proctor and other senior officers of the university.

The cases of Covid-19 are rising every day and if the present trend continues it is likely that cases may rise even more in the coming days. Hence, in the interest of safety of the students they are encouraged to go their homes and leave the hostels by taking their books and study materials with them so that in the event of worsening of the situation they may continue their studies through online classes to be conducted by the concerned teachers and take the examination which may be conducted in the online mode, if the situation so demands.

The situation will be reviewed in the first week of April and decision would be notified on the university’s website. The parents/guardians would also be informed in this regard. The offices and other functions of the university would continue as per schedule, and the faculty members would perform their duties as usual.
