FORMER BHU VC PROF. PANJAB SINGH RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS IFFCO AWARD 2020

Varanasi: Noted agricultural scientist, former Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University and Chancellor of Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University, Jhansi, Prof. Panjab Singh has been conferred with the prestigious “US Awasthi IFFCO Award 2020” for his life time achievements in the field of Agriculture Development and Agriculture Research.

Prof. Singh received the award at a ceremony in India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, organized by Fertilizer Association of India. Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, DV Sadananda Gowda, Union Minister of State of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Mansukh L Mandaviya, Director General, FAI, Satish Chander, Chairman, FAI, KS Raju and several other dignitaries graced the award ceremony. As part of the award, Prof. Singh was presented a medallion, citation and a cash prize.

Prof. Singh’s contribution in agriculture education, research and development as researcher, policy maker, planner, Research and Education Leader in different capacities spanning over more than four decades has helped India achieve food self-sufficiency and food security through first rate human resource development in various sectors of agriculture education, research and development.

Prof. Singh, who hails from Anantpur village of Mirzapur district in Uttar Pradesh, is also credited for his towering contribution in establishing Rajiv Gandhi South Campus of Banaras Hindu University in Mirzapur. This award is the most prestigious award promoted by the fertilizer industry for an individual’s contribution to agriculture growth in India. Last year this award was conferred to 2020 World Food Prize Winner Dr. Rattan Lal, a distinguished soil scientist at the Ohio State University in the United States.
