First Love Jihad case registered in Mau

Mau: The first case of Love Jihad under the newly promulgated Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020 was registered at Chiraiyakot police station in Mau district on Thursday.

The FIR was lodged against 14 persons including the man of other religion, who allegedly kidnapped the girl for marriage, said the Chiraiyakot inspector Rupesh Singh.

According to reports, the 30-year-old girl, whose marriage was scheduled on December 1, was allegedly kidnapped by a local resident Shabab alias Rahul Khan with the help of his family members on November 29. The accused was already married, and he worked as the driver of the girl’s family.

On the complaint of girl’s father, the police lodged against Shabab, his wife Rukhsana alias Munni, Islam Khan alias Timal, Jhintu alias Akbar Ali, Afsana Begum, Sunny alias Nadeem, Yasir alias Moda, Jafrul alias Disadi of Ballia district, Nawab Khan, Ajwaz Khan, Sukumar Das, Afroz Khan alias Ghunnu, Noorul Khan and Husna Bano of West Bengal.

The police were yet to get any breakthrough. A manhunt has been launched to nab the accused, the Mau SP Sushil Chandrabhan Ghule said.

Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, on November 28, had given assent to the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020. Just five days after promulgating the ordinance, the UP’s first case under the anti-conversion ordinance was registered in Bareilly district on November 28, and the police arrested a man on December 3.
