Varanasi: The eastern UP witnessed a spike in the Covid-19 cases on Thursday. Varanasi reported over 200 positive cases on the second consecutive day, while Ballia also witnessed over 100 positive cases on Thursday.
According to medical bulletin, a total of 210 new positive cases came to light in Varanasi on Thursday increasing the tally to 3,753 in the district. With the death of two more patients in past 24 hours, the death toll rose to 74. So far 2,068 patients including 722 in home isolation have recovered, while 1611 patients are under treatment.
In Azamgarh district, 114 more persons were tested positive for Covid-19 increasing the tally to 1,443 on Thursday. So far, 546 patients have recovered, while 23 persons died. Presently, the district has 864 active cases of Covid-19.
The Ghazipur district reported 112 new cases of Covid-19 in Thursday increasing the tally to 1,493. So far, 642 patients have recovered from illness, while 12 persons lost their lives. Presently, there are 801 active cases of Covid-19 in the district.

In Ballia district, 1,437 lab test reports were received out of which 101 persons were tested positive for Covid-19. With it, the total number of Covid-19 cases rose to 2,100. Of them 954 have become recovered and 23 persons died so far. Presently, 1.123 patients are being treated in different hospitals.
With the detection of 21 new positive cases in Mau district, the total number rose to 629. Of them, 203 patients are being treated, while six patients had died. So far, 420 patients have recovered from illness. Sonbhadra district reported 27 new cases of Covid-19 increasing the tally to 767.
Earlier, Jaunpur district reported 95 new cases on Wednesday night increasing the tally to 2, 500 in the district. Of them 1,293 patients have recovered, while 34 persons died.
In Chandauli district, 26 new patients were detected increasing the tally to 1,016. Of them, 723 patients have recovered, while nine persons died. Presently, there are 284 active cases of Covid-19 in the district.
