Varanasi: Breaking all previous records of coronavirus cases, Varanasi reported 312 new cases of Covid-19 on Friday increasing the tally to 4,065 in the district. The cases of Covid-19 witnessed a sharp spike in couples of days crossing the mark of 200 on Thursday and Wednesday.

With two more deaths including a senior journalist of Hindi daily Rakesh Chaturvedi, the number of fatalities rose to 77 in the district. A medical camp was held at Patrakarpuram Colony to examine the residents. The journalist fraternity condoled the demise of Chaturvedi.

According to the medical bulletin, so far 2,205 patients have recovered from illness and were discharged from the hospitals. Presently, there are 1,783 active cases of Covid-19 in Varanasi district.

In Ballia district, 87 more persons were tested postitive for coronavirus on Friday increasing the total number to 2,187. According to the medical bulletin, so far1,019 patients have recovered, while 23 persons lost their lives. Presently, the district has 1,145 active cases of Covid-19.

Sonbhadra district too reported 30 new cases of coronavirus infection increasing the tally to 796. So far, 514 patients have recovered, while five persons died due to the virus infection. Presently, there are 277 active cases of Covid-19 in the district.
