Clinical applications of Rasaushadhies

Varanasi: The Department of Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana (Herbo-Minerals and Pharmaceutics) of the Ayurveda Medical College at the Institute of Medical Sciences of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi is organising a two-day national level virtual brainstorming session on November 22 and 23 to probe into the causes of fears of people on clinical applications of Rasaushadhies (Herbo-Bio–Mineral-Metallic formulations) of Ayurveda.

The experts will discuss the emerging issues in Ayurveda education on the backdrop of the National Education Policy-2020.

Academicians of various subjects of Ayurveda, clinicians, captains of ayurvedic industry, business associations and all other stakeholders of the system from across the country have been invited to join the two-day brainstorming sessions, said Dr Anand Kumar Chaudhary, the organising secretary and professor and head at the Department of Rasashastra and Bhaishjya Kalpana. He said that the best brains of the Ayurveda community in the country will join together to brainstorm on the relevant issues.

Chaudhary said that the Rasaushadhies of Ayurveda have been used by ayurvedic physicians to treat patients successfully in acute as well as chronic conditions for centuries. Unfortunately, since the last two decades, there are confusions and concerns among people, especially in the new generation, on clinical applications of these formulations. Confusion is mainly on the quality, safety, and efficacy factors. Besides, there are multiple issues in ayurvedic pharmaceutics that also need deliberations and appropriate actions. Along with, emerging issues in Ayurveda education on the backdrop of the National Education Policy-2020 will also be discussed. Different pharmaceutical associations and academic leaders will participate in the deliberations to address major topics of deliberation.

On the first day, Prof. Srikrishna Khandel, Retired professor, National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur , Rajasthan, Prof. SN Gupta, Director, International Studies, JSS Ayurvedic College, Nadiad, Gujarat and Prof. L Mahadevan, Pankajakasthuri Ayurveda Medical College, Kerala will talk on the brainstorming sessions on Clinical Rasashastra.

In the discussions on education policy, Prof. SS Savrikar, Former Vice Chancellor, Gujarat Ayurveda University, Jamnagar, Prof. MS Baghel, Former Director, IPGT&RA, Jamnagar, Prof. Tanuja Nesari, Director, AIIA, New Delhi, Prof. Sanjeev Sharma, Director, NIA, Jaipur,Prof. Anup Thakar, Director, IPGT&RA, Jamnagar and Vaidya P Rammanohar, Research Director of Amrita School of Ayurveda, Kerala, will deliberate on the topic, “Does the National Education Policy-2020 address the real issues of Ayurveda?”

On the industry side, a panel of discussion will be arranged to ponder over the ways forward for acceptance of New Drug Delivery Systems for Ayurveda – Need for new Regulations. Captains of Dabur India Pvt. Limited, Sri Baidyanath Ayurved Bhawan, Limited, Dhootpapeshwar, Sandu Pharmaceuticals, Limited, the Himalaya Drug Company and the Emami Ltd will speak on the virtual platform.

On the topic, “Role of business organizations in the promotion of ayurvedic medical science and ayurvedic expertise in India and abroad”, leaders of business organizations like Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), ASSOCHAM India, PHD Chamber, Ayurvedic Drug Manufacturers Association (ADMA) and Ayurvedic Medicine Manufacturers Organization of India (AMMOI) will participate.

Dr Chaudhury said that the selected delegates in this brainstorming session will be in continuous interaction with each other along with resource persons. Postgraduate scholars (passed and pursuing) of any discipline of Ayurveda and teachers of ayurvedic colleges of any discipline with a keen interest in the clinical application of Rasashastra, Ayurvedic Pharmaceutics and Education are eligible to attend the online seminar.
