Varanasi: The Sir Sunderlal Hospital of Banaras Hindu University, which has been in the eye of the storm nowadays due to one reason or the other, also drew the attention of the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
During his visit to BHU on Saturday to review the preventive measures for Covid, the CM not only expressed his annoyance over the recent happenings but also reminded the old glory of the university and asked the authorities to exploit its potential in fullest to deliver as per its reputation.
Recently a Covid patient had ended his life by jumping off the hospital building, while another was found dead near the hospital building. Besides, two other patients one from Ballia and another from Jaunpur had fled from hospital after seeing the happenings.
Mentioning the recent suicide cases of two Covid patients at the hospital, CM said that it is a matter of concern, and such incident gives a wrong message to the society. He said that such incidents could be averted if the doctors and medical staff make regular visit to the wards to assess the condition of patients.
The CM said that the BHU hospital is known for rendering health services and treatment of patients from entire eastern Uttar Pradesh and other neighbouring states. He said that it was his second visit to BHU during the fight against the Covid pandemic. “There should be better result for which the state government will provide all required help,” said the CM adding that the senior faculties of BHU should make regular rounds in the hospital

The CM asked to arrange 150-bed ICU in BHU hospital. Giving stress on increasing the number of Covid sampling, he said that there should be 4000-5000 daily sampling in Varanasi. He said that the testing reports should come in 24 hours so that immediate treatment of positive patients can be started. He also asked to increase the OPD capacity of BHU hospital. He asked to make separate arrangements of dialysis for Covid and non-Covid patients.
The CM said that the the positive rate and fatality rate in Varanasi are greater than UP’s positive and fatality rates. He said that the urban area of Varanasi is more affected than the rural area. He asked the health department authorities to conduct ward wise survey of the city. He asked the medical team to remain in touch with the patients in home isolation.
The CM said that the need of L-1 hospital has reduced after the home isolation arrangements. The arrangements of L-2 and L-3 hospitals should be increased, he said adding that there should no shortage of bed in Covid hospitals in the district. The CM also asked the district authorities to keep a check on over pricing by the private hospitals for Covid treatment.
Earlier, the district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma gave details of Covid situation in the district through power point presentation. He said that so far 106840 samples have been tested in the district. Among them 7746 tested positive for Covid-19, out of whom 5851 patients have recovered so far. The recovery rate of the district is 75.5% while the fatality rate is 1.79% and positive rate is 7.25%.
