The Central Hospital of Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) is working as COVID dedicated hospital with 105 beds for Corona patients catering the need of both railway as well as non-railway persons as directed by the district administration.

Varanasi: The Central Hospital of Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) is working as COVID dedicated hospital with 105 beds for Corona patients catering the need of both railway as well as non-railway persons as directed by the district administration.

The DLW spokesperson Ashok Kumar said that hospital has recently increased ICU beds from four to six, and it has augmented piped oxygen gas supply to all the 105 beds. At present 85 patients are admitted in the hospital and has so far discharged more than 150 patients recovered from COVID. Round the clock patients are being taken care by a team of 25 dedicated doctors and paramedics.

He said that the hospital is well equipped with nine ventilators to fulfill the need of   COVID services. Proper arrangements have been made for full safety measures against COVID-19 and strict disposal of Bio-medical wastes with having reservoir to deal with additional two months requirement. The hospital is having adequate numbers of oxygen cylinders & oxygen concentrators. Adequate numbers of multi-para monitor and Pulse Oxymeters are available to monitor oxygen concentration in patients.

According to him, remotely operated motorized trolley ‘MEDBOT’, an inhouse product of DLW, is being used in ward to supply medicines, food and other essentials to patients to safe guard health care workers. New video laryngoscope has been procured for safe use of ventilator. In house facility for COVID test by rapid antigen test is available which has been helpful to detect to more than 25 cases for prompt confirmation of COVID. Standard protocol for bio-medical waste disposal is being ensured by newly purchased BMW collection trolley, waste collection room, 3-bucket janitorial cart, digital weighing machine and foot operated BMW bins.

He said that separate arrangements for food are being done for hospital staff as well as for patients in co-ordination with district authority. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are being provided on time with prior testing. Adequate number of RO machines & electric cattles are available for hot drinking water and electric steam inhaler are also being used. All doctors and paramedics have been provided active quarantine facilities along with provision of food. Adequate monitoring of home quarantine cases is being ensured in association with district authority. Infection Prevention Control protocols are strictly being maintained with close monitoring on cleanliness and disinfection measures along with use of PPE, he said.
