Coronavirus blast in Ballia district-jail
Ballia: The Ballia district jail witnessed a blast of corona bomb on Friday, when 160 prisoners including a woman inmate were tested positive for coronavirus.
The Ballia jail superintendent Prashant Kumar Maury said that the health department team had collected samples of 594 prisoners. Of them 160 were found infected with coronavirus. He said that the infected prisoners have been accommodated in separate barrack in the jail.

They are being given medication and food as per the instruction of the health department. He said that no jail staff was found infected in medical examination. The woman inmate has been admitted to the L-1 hospital at Basantpur.
Ballia district jail had also witnessed 16 COVID-19 cases in the recent past, when 16 persons including 11 prisoners and five prison staff were found infected with coronavirus on July 21.
Earlier, the Sonbhadra district jail had reported 17 COVID-19 cases including nine prisoners and eight prison staff on July 6, and one more prisoner was found infected on July 14. Before it, the Mau district jail had also reported two COVID-19 cases on July 2.
