COVID-19 continues to spread alarmingly

Varanasi: Coronavirus continued to play a havoc in Varanasi and adjoining districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.  With 102 new cases of COVID-19, the tally rose to 1,924 in Varanasi on Saturday. Ballia and Azamgarh registered 99 and 85 new cases respectively in 24 hours.

According to Varanasi district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma, among 1617 lab test reports received on Saturday 102 person were found positive for COVID-19. One 45-year-old man of Bank Colony Madhopur in Sigra area died due to infection increasing the death toll to 39. As many as 41 recovered patients were discharged from hospitals on Saturday. So far 829 patients have recovered from illness, while the district has 1,056 active cases of COVID-19.

In Ballia district, DM Hari Pratap Shahi informed that with the 99 new cases of COVID-19 the tally rose to 1,240. Of them 647 have recovered while 16 persons died. Presently, the district has 569 active cases of coronavirus. Among 99 positive cases detected on Saturday, 68 are prisoners of the district jail.

In Azamgarh district, the chief medical officer Dr AK Mishra informed that 85 new cases of COVID-19 were found in the district increasing the tally to 630. On them 12 persons had died, while 250 are under treatment. Among new 85 cases, 12 are prisoners and one is a doctor of jail hospital.

In Mau district, the DM Gyan Prakash Tripathi informed that among 467 lab test reports 13 persons were found positive. With it the tally brose to 386. Among them 275 have recovered, while four persons died. Presently, there are 107 patients are under treatment in the district.
