Varanasi: After the death of a Covid-19 patient at the Sir Sunderlal Hospital of Banaras Hindu University on Sunday, his attendants and relatives ransacked the ACU and damaged the medical equipment. They alleged that the youth died due to the medical negligence. The hospital administration informed the matter to police.
According to reports, the patient Rahul Srivastava (29) was admitted to the BHU’s Covid hospital on July 31 for treatment. He tested negative on August 28.
According to the BHU spokesperson Rajesh Singh, the patient was admitted under Dr D P Yadav. He was suffering from fever for seven days, shortness of breath for four days and cough for four days. He was admitted to COVID ICU on the same day. He was on non-invasive ventilatory support since the day of admission, and injection remdesivir was also started on the same day.

He was given plasma therapy on August 8, and he remained in ICU for the need of ventilatory support. The patient was shifted to ACU on Saturday night. Maximum possible intensive care was given to him, but patient expired on Sunday morning.
The attendants indulged in ransacking the ACU after his death. They damaged a ventilator machine, a suction machine, a medicine crusher, the entrance glass door of ACU, electric switch board at bed-9, ECG machine wire, a stationary probe and a cuff of blood pressure machine. They also threatened the doctors and staff on duty. Giving details of the damage to the medical superintendent, the ACU in-charge demanded a team of security guard at the ACU for the safety of doctors and staff.
