22nd International Ayurveda Symposium Held

Varanasi: European Rosenberg Academy of Ayurveda, Birstein, Frankfurt, Germany, an MoU partner with Banaras Hindu University for academic exchange and promotion and propagation of Ayurveda in Europe, organized the 22nd International Ayurveda Symposium (Webinar) from September 11 to 13, 2020.

Prof Anand Chaudhary, Head, department of Rasa Shastra and Bhasihjya kalpana (Ayurvedic Pharmaceutics), Faculty of Ayurveda, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University presented a talk on ‘Impact of Doshaa on Ancient Ayurvedic Dosage Forms and its relevancy in the invention of New Ayurvedic Dosage Forms’ before 224 participants from 16 European countries on September 12. Prof Chaudhary said that these ancient dosage forms of Ayurveda viz Self-expressed Juice (swaras), Decoction (Kwath ) Powder (Churna), Avalaeh (Confectionaries), Fermented medicinal products (Asa Arishta) and Medicated Oil and Ghrita are made to treat specific condition of diseases to make the balance of these Tridoshas -Vata, Pitta and Kapha whose imbalance causes a disease in the human body. He said that the new dosage form as per the demands of the contemporary society should be developed with basic doctrines of Ayurveda. Only science and technology applications without considering the basics of Doshas’ impact may not be fruitful.

Pro. Chaudhary on September 13 had participated in an expert panel discussion entitled “Rasayana – Traditional Knowledge and its Application in Modern Time”. Discussing the issue, he said that these Rasayan (Rejuvenating Medicines) drugs are very relevant even today as these are best for the rejuvenation of the human body. In this period of the corona crisis these drugs like Giloy, Ashwagandha, Chavyanprash are in more demand as an immunity booster to keep people healthy.

Vd Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, had digitally inaugurated the symposium. He said that for the first time in India such rigorous scientific studies had been planned for the AYUSH system of medicines to get proper medicines to tackle coronavirus. He said about three lakhs subjects have been registered in clinical trials of Ayurvedic drugs at 53 centers and 91 clinical trial projects. This is a mega project and finding of these projects will be evaluated by the scientists of the Indian Council of Medical Research, Council of Scientific Industrial research a group of Statisticians, and all others before publishing and claiming any positive or otherwise results of these trials. He said initial results are encouraging and establishing the wisdom of Indian traditional Knowledge. These trials are supposed to be completed by December 2020.

Vd Kotecha said that All India Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi is working exemplary to serve the people of Delhi with the Ayurvedic intervention. The Dhanawanatri Rath is a moving all across Delhi to serve all the corona warriors especially Delhi Police personnel.

“Ayurveda Sanjjevani was launched by the Ministry of AYUSH with the target of 50 lakh people but now it has been downloaded by more than 1.5 crore people, this is suggestive of faith of Indian people in AYUSH,” he said.

Vd Kotecha assures the Europeans that the Ayurvedic Medicines certified by government agencies of India are ensuring quality, safety, and efficacy of these medicines. He invited all these global citizens to adopt Ayurveda for the promotion of health.

In the end, Mr. Mark and Ms. Kerstein Rosenberg, the convenor of the symposium and Directors of the European Rosenberg Academy of Ayurveda thanked the Secretary and Indian delegations and administration of Banaras Hindu University for their continuous support in academic exchanges.

Dr Ram Manohar, from Kerala. Amrita University, Prof S N Gupta from Gujarat JSS Ayurvedic Institutes, Prof Tanuja Nesari Director, All Indian Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi, and Prof Abhimanyu Kumar Vice-Chancellor, SSR Ayurveda University, Jodhpur are the other participants from India.
