Everything is not fine in BHU Hospital

Varanasi: Amid the Covid pandemic the Banaras Hindu University hospital is in the eye of the storm nowadays.  A Covid patient ended his life by jumping from the 4th floor of hospital building on Sunday night, while the body of another coronavirus patient, who went missing, was found near the hospital building on Monday night.

Besides, two other Covid patients also fled from the trauma centre on Monday. While one of them was traced in Ballia, the search was on for another patient on Jaunpur district. The trauma centre officials had reported Lanka police that the two patients had been missing from August 23 night. According to the police, during search operation the mother of the patient from Ballia informed police that she had taken back her son to home after knowing the incidents at BHU hospital.

The body of Ajay Kumar Bharti of Dhaphi area, who had gone missing from Covid ward on August 22 night, was found near the hospital. It led to spark the anger of local natives and they assembled at the hospital. The situation was calmed after intervention of police and the body was sent for postmortem.

Meanwhile, the district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma on Tuesday ordered a magisterial probe into the incident of the recovery of missing patient’s body. The DM has asked to submit the report within 15 days.

During a recent review meeting, the UP minister Suresh Khanna had asked all hospitals with Covid facilities to equip the wards with CTV network for proper monitoring of the activities taking place in the wards. The BHU authorities have been asked to arrange CCTV network in the Covid ward and monitor it round the clock from command room to avoid such incidents.
