Man shot-dead in presence of police-administrative officials

Ballia: A man was shot dead by a local resident in full view public and in presence of police and administrative officials during the allotment of fair price shop at Durjanpur village in Revati police station area of Ballia district on Thursday.

Taking cognizance of the incident, the chief minister Yogi Adityanath directed for the immediate suspension of all administrative and police personnel present at the site, and strictest action against the accused. The role of the officers would be investigated and criminal action would be taken if found responsible.

According to reports, a meeting for the allotment of the fair price shop in the village was in progress in presence of SDM Bairia Suresh Kumar Pal, CO Bairia Chandrakesh Singh, station officer of Revati police station and police force. Hundreds of villagers were present on the occasion.

At some distance from the tents in which officials were sitting, Dhirendra Pratap Singh alias Dabloo Singh started firing indiscriminately after an exchange of heated words with some people. A villager Jaiprakash Pal was injured seriously in the firing. A panic prevailed after the firing and people started running away. Jaiprakash was immediately rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The assailant managed to flee from the scene. According to Jaiprakash’s son Abhishek Kumar Pal, Dhirendra opened around 25 rounds of fire, and his father sustained four bullet injuries.

The firing incident in presence of police and administrative officers kept the senior officials sweating. The Ballia district magistrate Hari Pratap Shahi and SP Devendra Nath reached the village after getting information.

Following the order of the state government, the SDM and CO of Bairia, Revati SO and entire police force present at the spot were suspended. The police launched a manhunt to nab the absconding accused.
