Varanasi: Swami Vasudevanand Saraswati, one of the members of newly formed Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, wanted that the Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya should be built as per the model of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). He, however, said that the decision of the Trust in this regard would be final.
Talking to reporters here on Thursday, he said that in his opinion Shri Ram temple should be built as per the model of VHP and Ramjanmabhoomi Nyas, as people from across the country donated Rs. 8.25 crore for it.
When asked the opposition of Trust by Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati, he said, “Wo bade hain, bujurg hain aur humare peeth ke shishya hain, Main unki baat ka pratikar nahi karunga” (He is elderly and disciple of my peeth, I would not counter him). “But I like to say that the Trust has been formed by the Government of India on the direction of the Supreme Court”, he added.
Just after the formation of the Trust, the Ramalaya Nyas, headed by Swami Swaroopanand opposed the Trust. The Nyas secretary Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati said that they would move court alleging that the central government did not follow the directive of the Supreme Court. “The Supreme Court had directed the central government to formulate a ‘scheme’, not a trust for the construction of Ram temple”, he said and also objected the inclusion of Swami Vasudevanand as the Shankaracharya of Jyotishpeeth in the Trust.
