24 migrants killed, 36 injured in a mishap
Accidents occurs in Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district; CM Yogi Adityanath condoles the deaths and directs of the migrant workers and directs officials to provide the best possible medical facility to the injured workers
Varanasi: In a tragic incident at least 24 migrant workers lost their lives and 36 others sustained injuries when a speeding truck hit a stationary truck trolley in Auraiya district on Saturday morning.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath condoled the deaths of the migrant workers, and directed officials to provide the best possible medical facility to the injured, and also ordered a detailed enquiry into the accident. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled the deaths.
According to reports, 20 injured persons have been rushed to PGI Saifai in critical condition while 16 others are undergoing treatment at the district hospital in Auraiya. The tuck was carrying 18 migrants while the truck trolley had around 42 persons when the accident occurred.
The truck trolley stopped at a roadside eatery. It was carrying migrant workers from Jaipur and Bharatpur districts of Rajasthan and most of them belong to UP’s Kushinagar, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. The truck was ferrying the workers from Delhi and was heading towards Sagar in Madhya Pradesh. The truck driver apparently fell asleep and failed to spot the truck trolley.
The truck collided with the trolley from behind and climbed over it. All the 42 workers sitting on the trolley were injured and 24 of them died before reaching the hospital. The police reached there after getting information. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and efforts are on to contact their family members.
