The Office of Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India (Office of PSA) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST) have jointly initiated the process of formulating Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy (STIP 2020). This will be India’s 5th national policy on Science and Technology. The policy is being formulated at a crucial juncture where India and the world are tackling the crisis of COVID-19 pandemic. The post-COVID-19 world demands for a new outlook and strategy for STI – in terms of priorities, sectoral focus, and broadly the way research is done, technologies are developed and deployed for larger socio-economic welfare.
21 thematic groups have been constituted for the STIP 2020 policy drafting exercise. Prof. Vivek Singh has been designated a key member of the Thematic Group on Research. A total of 130 experts have been selected from across the country to be part of these thematic groups.
Prof. Vivek Singh has expressed happiness over his inclusion in the thematic group on Research. He has said that BHU being the capital of knowledge can contribute meaningfully to the STIP drafting process, especially in a vision for future of multidisciplinary universities.
The six-month process involves broad-based consultations with all stakeholders within and beyond the scientific ecosystem of the country –including academia, industry, government, global partners, young scientists and technologists, civic bodies, and general public.
