Dubai waits for Banarasi mangoes
Varanasi: Amid the lockdown when most human beings prefer to stay indoors, the famous Banarasi Langada and Dashehary mangoes are ready to land in Dubai.
It is the second export consignment from Varanasi during the lockdown period. Earlier, a Ghazipur based farmer had sent a consignment of fresh vegetables including chilli, cucumber and lauki (gourd) was exported to London (UK) on April 23.
Divisional commissioner Deepak Agrawal on Thursday said that the consignment of Banarasi Langada and Dushehary from an orchard in Bhikharipur of Raja Talab area is being sent to Lucknow by road, from where it would be exported to Dubai by aerial route after packaging.
Banarasi Langra is a famous mango variety cultivated in Varanasi. The oval-shaped Banarasi Langada is green in colour even when it is ripe. The Dasheri mango variety, which was first cultivated in the garden of a Nawab in Lucknow about 200 years back, is known for its sweetness with a strong aroma. It is fibreless, it is bright yellow in colour.
