14 news cases of COVID-19 in Varanasi

Total number of positive cases rises to 182 in the district

 

Varanasi: With the detection of 14 new COVID-19 cases in Varanasi, the total number of positive cases rose to 182 in the district on Sunday. However, six recovered patients were also discharged from hospital increasing the tally of discharged patients to 117. So far the district has 61 active cases of COVID-19.

According to the district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma, the results of 200 samples were received on Sunday from the microbiology lab of Banaras Hindu University, in which 14 have been tested positive. Among the new positive cases three are policemen and a woman trader of sarees. The three police constables staying in the Police Lines had been quarantined in the barrack after one of their colleagues tested positive four days ago. After confirmation they were admitted to isolation ward of Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya district hospital. The 40-year-old woman sari trader is the resident of Chhamuhani under Jaitpura police station area. Her contact tracing is in progress.

Besides, the other 10 persons are migrant workers including a 60-year-old man of Umraha Barai village of Chaubeypur, a 30-year-old woman of Hiramanpur in Phoolpur area, a 42-year-old labourer of Mokalpur village of Chaubeypur, a Surat returned 30-year-old migrant of Chhitampur village in Chaubeypur area, a 23-year-old labourer of Amilo village in Badagaon, a 48-year-old Bharatpur (Rajasthan) returned vegetable vendor of Tikari village of Chaubeypur, a 36-year-old native of New Colony Soyepur of Cantonment police station area, a 32-year-old youth and his companion a 35-year-old native of Ratanpur village in Badagaon area, and a 27-year-old man of Hariharpur in Jansa. Majority of them had returned from Mumbai.

After Sunday’s report, seven places including Chhitampur, Amilo, Sarai Tikari, Soyepur, Ratanpur, Hariharpur and Chhamuhani have been declared new hotspots. Now, the total number of hotspots in the district rose to 92, though 28 hotspots have turned to green zone.
