BHU microbiology lab for COVID-19 sample testing starts functioning after six-day closure

Varanasi: The microbiology department laboratory at Banaras Hindu University started functioning again for COVID-19 sample testing on Wednesday evening after a temporary closure for sanitization.
The lab was closed after a woman lab scientist tested positive for COVID-19 on May 1. All other 13 scientists and technicians were quarantined. The lab was restarted after sterilization, training of new batch of scientists and technicians.
During closure of the lab, the samples were being sent to KGMU Lucknow. According to the district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma, a total of 303 samples were sent to KGMU during this period. The reports of three samples are awaited. Now, the BHU lab is fully function with a new team of scientists and technicians.
