IIT BHU (MCIIE) added UVGI System in Covid Lab of IMS BHU

 

Varanasi: Realizing the urgent need to develop low cost, multi-purpose instruments for effective sanitization in prevailing Covid-19 pandemic, Allywing Solutions, an incubated company of Malaviya Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (MCIIE) at IIT BHU, has come up with innovative ready to use Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) based products.

“We have developed a wide range of UVC systems. Our advanced systems assure the elimination of biological contaminants such as viruses, bacteria, mold, spores, allergens, and hundreds of other airborne contaminants. We make this possible by effectively and efficiently treating moving air with UV-C radiation,” said the coordinator Prof. PK Mishra.

As per latest research publications, Ultraviolet-C light-based sterilizer can kill a range of microorganisms including viruses (including SARS syndrome coronavirus, Nipah virus etc.) and bacteria in a short period. Mishra said that the system has series of UV lamps (depending on size of place of installation) with each having capacity of 22 watts.

Any virus can be deactivated up to 99% by the UVGI dose of 2400 microwattsec/cm2, however this system can produce UVGI dose of more than2400 microwattsec/cm2 which ensures the dose in excess for complete inactivation of corona virus. This system also works on auto timer to ensure the safety of user against the UV dose. Moreover, visual red/green indicator ensures safety to workers again UV hazards.

The system could be applied at hospitals, operation theaters, ICU and IVF labs, microbiological labs, special wards, dental facilities, laboratories, pharmaceutical units, patient care wards, etc.
