Kashi is confluence of urban and forest cultures
Varanasi: The regional unit of UP Archaeological department in association with the Pilgrim Publishing and Varanasi chapter of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) organized a lecture on ‘Kashi’s Biological and Cultural inheritance’ at Pilgrims Book House on Saturday.
The event held under the ‘Kashi Vimarsh’ lecture series aims at propagating the ancient traditions, wisdom, cultural and ancient heritage to the coming generations. Delivering the lecture, Prof Rajavshishta Tripathi highlighted the biological and cultural inheritance of Kashi referring to the genetic configuration o human body. “It is the distinct culture of Kashi that converts ‘vasana’ (lust) into ‘upasana’ (worship or respect to God), and it is a great contribution of Kashi to the science”, he said.
The programme was attended by Dr Vijay Shankar Shukla, Prof Chandra Bhushan Jha, Dr Hareram Dwivedi, Sribas Supakar, Dr Atri Bharadwaj, Kamala Madhur, Dr Sushil Chaturvedi, Capt Yogendra Singh, Dr Gargi Chatterjee, Dr Ranjana Pandey, Dr Shweta Chowdhary, Vishnu Yadav, Dr Premnarayan Singh, Dr Abha Mishra Pathak, Dr Kashi Pathak, Dr Jyoti Singh, Archana Singh, Prashant Rai, Balram Yadav and others.
Earlier, Ramanand Tiwari of Pilgrims Book House welcomes the guests. The regional archaeological officer Dr Subhash Chandra Yadav highlighted the aims and objectives of the lecture series. The convener of Varanasi chapter of INTACH Ashok Kapoor proposed a vote of thanks.
