Wanted criminal gunned down

Bhadohi: The police gunned down a notorious criminal Deepak alias Ravi in an encounter near Chakia crossing of Suriyava area in Bhadohi district on Monday late night. Two police personnel also sustained bullet injuries in exchange of fire.

According to Bhadohi SP, RB Singh, Deepak had fled from the custody of Varanasi police in 2014. A reward of Rs. 50,000 was announced on him. During the special drive carried out to nab wanted criminals, the Suriyava police and crime branch got inputs regarding movement of some miscreants. The police around 2 am noticed two persons on a motorcycle. When they were asked to stop, one of them opened indiscriminate firing and started fleeing from the scene.

Two policemen including a crime branch inspector Ajay Singh and a constable of Suriyava police station Sachin sustained bullet injuries in leg and bulletproof jacket. The police also retaliated in similar manner, and one of them fell from the motorcycle while other managed to flee leaving the motorcycle. Police recovered a revolver and a country made pistol from the possession of killed miscreant, who was later identified as Deepak.

He was wanted in 14 cases of crime including of murder and loot. He was lodged in Varanasi jail, but he managed to escape from the custody of police in 2014. He was a native of Suriyava.
