IIT (BHU) develops low-cost method of Sterilizing Vehicles

This UVC vehicle sterilization system will be capable of disinfecting vehicles from various viruses such as SARS syndrome coronavirus, Nipah virus and Crimean -Congo Haemorrhagic fever virus, etc.

 

Varanasi: Malaviya Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (MCIIE), IIT(BHU) has developed a UVC vehicles sterilizer. The Centre claims this UVC vehicle sterilization system will be capable of disinfecting vehicles from various viruses such as SARS syndrome coronavirus, Nipah virus and Crimean -Congo Haemorrhagic fever virus, etc.

The MCIIE coordinator Prof. PK Mishra said that an incubate Gaurav Singh came up with the concept of UVC vehicles sterilizer. Presently disinfection method requires spraying disinfectant in the vehicles, which need to be wiped-off and can be harmful for human body. While ultraviolet disinfection uses radiation to sterilize the interior environment of the ambulance / other vehicles without harming people and contaminating clothes.

He said that several researches suggest that UVC technique can be very effective technique for disinfection of ambulance, public transport and other vehicles. This vehicle sterilizer works on UVC capacity of 44w and is operated on 12v, by killing almost all viruses without harming vehicles.

IIT (BHU) director Prof. Pramod Kumar Jain said that the institute is fully prepared to fight with the corona virus while discharging its social obligations and is ready to cooperate with the administration for all such needs.
