International Museum Day
Sri Agrasen Girls PG College has a rich museum
Varanasi: As the national lockdown is in place due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, no formal event was organized to observe the International Museum Day on Monday.
The International Museum Day (IMD) is held annually on May 18 in coordination with the International Council of Museums (ICOM). The IMD provides the opportunity for museum professionals to meet the public and raise awareness on the role museums play in the development of society.
The museum conserves the collections of artifacts and other objects of artistic, cultural, historical or scientific importance. The public museums make these items available for public viewing through exhibits.
Sri Agrasen Girls PG College run by Sri Agrawal Samaj at Parmanandpur also has a rich museum and art gallery. Established in 2012 under the leadership of Anil Kumar Jain, the college manager and founder of Sankalp Sanstha working to make Kashi free from tuberculosis, the museum has collections of coins, terracotta, ancient tools and weapons, ornaments and many other artifacts. The museum also houses paintings and sculptures of Kashi. It is perhaps the only museum of ant college in eastern UP. According to the curator Dr. Niharika, the museum is visited by distinguished persons as well as foreigners.
