Purnea University VC nominated INFLIBENT member

Varanasi: The vice-chancellor of Purnea University Prof. Rajesh Singh has been nominated member of Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) by the chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) and president of the Council of INFLIBNET Prof. DP Singh.

Singh has been nominated for a period of three years. UGC has established inter-university centres of which INFLIBENET, Gandhinagar is one of the autonomous organizations which was set up in 1991. The primary responsibility of the INFLIBNET is to modernize the university library and to promote scholarly communication among academicians and researchers in India.

“I am thankful to UGC Chairman Prof DP Singh for nominating me to the GB (Governing Body) of Inter-University Centres of Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) for three years,” said Rajesh Singh, adding, “I hope I will be able to contribute the best of my knowledge and efforts to this assignment. Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) Centre is an autonomous Inter-University Centre of the University Grants Commission, New Delhi”.

He said that it is a major national programme initiated by the UGC in March 1991 as a project under the IUCAA, it became an independent Inter-University Centre in June 1996. INFLIBNET is involved in modernizing university libraries in India using the state-of-art technologies for the optimum utilisation of information. INFLIBNET is set out to be a major player in promoting scholarly communication among academicians and researchers in India.

According to him, this is one of the most potential and important platform of our country to make use and share of our information, database, knowledge, Information and library resources of our country and helping countries. “I believe majority of our higher education institutions and weak in these resources.  Keeping in view of COVID-19 this platform is going to play an important in University system in next decade and further,” he added.
