Cancer Hospitals in Varanasi gear up to prevent the spread of Corona virus

 

Varanasi: Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, Lahartara and Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Centre, Banaras Hindu University, which are run by the Tata Memorial Centre, have adopted measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus and protect the cancer patients.

Talking to reporters on Monday, the chief administrative officer Madho Singh said that a meeting was convened in this regard for adopting special precautions and awareness related to coronavirus for cancer patients at the two hospitals.

The assistant medical superintendent at HBC Hospital Dr. Akash Anand Srivastava said that considering the risk of infection with the Corona Virus, certain precautionary measures have been adopted for registered cancer patients and their attendants. He said that the screening of the patients would be done by a team of doctors at the main entrance of the hospital so that unnecessary crowds can be avoided in the hospital. In order to avoid unnecessary crowds in the hospital premises, only one attendant will be allowed with the cancer patient.

For patients who have completed their treatment, follow up would be done after April 15, 2020. In this regard, regular SMS are being sent on the mobiles of the patients. The patients are requested to come after April 15 for regular follow up. The patients registered before August 1, 2019, are supposed to have completed their treatment, hence they are requested to come after April 30, 2020, for regular follow up.

He said that the cancer-related emergency services and registration of new cancer patients and treatment will continue as usual. The patients undergoing treatment, who have been registered after August 1, 2019, will continue their follow up regularly. Among these patients, who are not undergoing active treatment are requested to come to the hospital after April 15, 2020, for follow-up.

Those patients who have any symptoms of cough, fever and any other symptom related to COVID-19 are requested to avoid coming to the hospital along with cancer patients and may contact the district hospital or Corona Unit. All these preparations are being done in the public interest to prevent the spread of coronavirus to cancer patients.
