Amid opposition, Dr Feroz Khan takes part in another interview for Sanskrit teacher post in BHU
Varanasi: Amid strong protest of students and poster war against him, Dr Firoz Khan took part in another interview for the post of an assistant professor in the Faculty of Arts, Banaras Hindu University on Wednesday. Earlier, Dr Khan had also taken part in the interview for the same post in the Faculty of Ayurveda, Institute of Medical Sciences on November 29.
Dr Khan has been facing opposition from the students of BHU’s Sanskrit Vidya Dharm Vigyan faculty since his appointment as an assistant professor at Sahitya department in the Faculty of SVDV on November 5. He could not take the classes as the students locked the Faculty and started sit-in stir in front of the residence of the vice-chancellor from November 7.
They ended their 16-day sit-in on November 22 after getting assurance from the university administration that their queries would be answered in 10 days. They had sought reply of five queries from the university administration regarding the process of shortlisting of candidates included – if the procedure in Sahitya department is similar to that of other departments of SVDV faculty, if shortlisting of candidates was done in view of traditional rules (Sanatan Dharm), which rule of UGC was adopted in shortlisting and whether the appointment was done in accordance with the BHU Act. While the BHU administration claimed that the queries of students were answered, they continued their agitation saying that the reply given by the university administration is not satisfactory and without any documentary proof.
But, being dissatisfied with the answers of BHU administration the students resumed dharna in front of the SVDV Faculty on December 2 and continued their agitation on the third consecutive day on Wednesday. Some posters with handwritten text “Sanskrit Vidya Dharm Vigyan Sankay mein Anaryon (gair-Hindu) pravesh varjit” (Entry of non-Hindu is prohibited in SVDV) also appeared on the campus.
The interview of the Faculty of Arts was held at the residence of VC in which around 40 candidates of OBC and SC/ST categories took part. The dean Prof. Ashok Singh confirmed that Dr Khan also took part in the interview.
