COVID-19 patients accommodated with suspects

Mau: The chief medical officer (CMO) was served notice for keeping COVID-19 patients with the suspected persons in the railway coaches at Mau railway station. The district magistrate sought explanation from the CMO after it came it light that 27 COVID-19 patients were accommodated in the railway coaches, which were provided by the Indian Railways for utilizing them as institutional quarantine centre only.

As per the guidelines of the ministry of health and family welfare, the railway coaches can be used only for very mild cases that can be clinically assigned to the Covid care centres. Mau had become the first district of the country by accommodating 59 people for institutional quarantine in these coaches on June 20.

According to the DM Gyan Prakash Tripathi, he came to know that 27 positive cases were accommodated in the coaches. As it was a blunder committed by the health department, an explanation has been sought from the CMO. Besides, a committee has also been constituted to investigate the matter. Meanwhile, all the COVID-19 patients were shifted to L-1 hospital from rail coaches.

The health department had started accommodating COVID-19 patients in rail coaches on July 3. The matter came to light when other persons quarantined in the coaches recorded videos of infected persons and made it viral on social media.
