Man killed in Azamgarh

Azamgarh: A youth was killed and several others were injured in a clash between two groups over land dispute at Gopalpur village in Mehnagar police station area of Azamgarh district on Wednesday night.

The injured persons were admitted to the district hospital for treatment. Heavy police force has been deployed in the village to avert any untoward situation.

According to reports, there was a land dispute between two neighbours Nakchhed Chauhan and Mitthu. They had also confronted over the issue about a week ago. The local panchayat intervened and tried to resolve the matter, but they did not reach any agreement.

Later, the matter was reported to police on Tuesday, and both the parties were called to police station on Wednesday. They were warned not to indulge in confrontation, and the matter would be resolved in presence of police on Thursday.

But after returning from the police station both the parties indulged in verbal dispute on Wednesday evening. The police reached the village after getting information and warned them to remain calm till the matter is resolved on Thursday morning.

After the police party returned, both the groups clashed late on Wednesday night. They became free for all using sticks, rods and stones. Around six persons including three women from both sides were injured in the clash. The police officials with force reached the village after getting information and camped there whole night.

The injured persons were rushed to the district hospital, where an injured person Ankit (25) succumbed to injuries during treatment on Thursday.

In view of the tension heavy police force has been deployed in the village on Thursday morning. Azamgarh SP Triveni Singh said that the case is being registered, and appropriate action would be taken against the guilty persons.
