Policemen attacked in Azamgarh, seven cops injured

12 persons booked, one arrested

Azamgarh: In an attack on police party at least seven police personnel including two women constables were injured at Sehada village in Kandharapur police station area.

The police arrested one of the attackers. An FIR was lodged against 12 persons including eight women under sections 147, 148, 149, 332, 336, 352, 353, 307, 504, 506 of Indian Penal Code and 7 of Criminal Law (Amendment) Act 2013.

According to reports, the police party had gone to the village to investigate a complaint lodged by Uma Devi. The police called the both parties to resolve the issue. While the parley was on the rival party went aggressive. They started confronting with police, and one of them Santvijay Nishad allegedly opened fire on police party with his rifle. Fortunately, no policeman was hurt in firing. The members of rival party including women allegedly attacked the police party with sticks and sharp edge weapons.

Several policemen including sub-inspector Ghanshyam Yadav, constables Nagendra Yadav, Ramanand Gaud, Ajay Vishwakarma, Sikandar Bansphor, Lilawati Chauhan and Renu Yadav sustained injuries in the attack. Meanwhile, another police party reached there after getting information and brought the situation under control.

One of the attackers Santvijay Nishad was arrested on the spot while Ramvijay Nishad fled from the scene with rifle. Besides the, 10 others including Rahul, Harpal, Mila, Seema, Shanti, Soni, Jyoti, Nisha, Meera and Gayatri were also booked.
